A stoneware plate spans the frame of the three works in Song’s At the Scene series. Set against its pale blue surface, a lurid fish carcass—either its filleted body, bloody entrails, or tail—draws attention to the ethics of consumption, visual and otherwise. Presented as an aesthetic object, the dinner plate exposes how humans have sublimated acts of violence to rationalize eating other living beings for survival and even pleasure. It acts as allegory of a more pervasive human desire for conquest and domination, where development and progress depend on the consumption of others’ lives.
