Song playfully explores the origins of his inflating bodies in a suite of three circular paintings: were they born in a state of expansion, or did conditions of urban society set them adrift? A close-up of inflated infant bodies, whose pudgy necks and hands frame swollen bellies, suggest a more universal and basic human will to grow and progress. Stripped of the markers of professional and social identity, the infants’ bodies expand naturally in a state of untouched potential.
